Internships at Pewabic

InternshipThe Pottery offers internships for university students who wish to learn about mold making, design, tile pressing, glazing and kiln firing as well as the fine craft retail industry and business side of a working historic pottery. Internships can be served in a variety of departments, including Education or Fabrication Studios, Gallery, Marketing and Development. Pewabic staff members serve as mentors.

We have worked with university students who need this experience for credit as well as those who do not seek academic credit. We are happy to discuss your university's requirements for an offsite internship with you.

Please contact Chrys Bonnay-Lewis for more information on these programs by emailing clewis@pewabic.org or calling at (313) 626-2086.

Apprenticeships at Pewabic

Each summer, Pewabic offers a unique apprentice program for talented Detroit High School students. Art students are interviewed and selected for a unique work-study program at the Pottery. Morning sessions are spent in ceramic instruction. Afternoon sessions are spent as students are divided into teams which rotate through various Pottery areas assisting staff.

Supervision is provided at all times by a Pewabic instructor who accompanies the students. Students will have an opportunity to exhibit their work created at Pewabic in our Annual Student, Staff, and Faculty Show.

Please contact our Community and Youth Programs Supervisor for more information on these programs by emailing clewis@pewabic.org or calling us at (313) 626-2086.
