Pewabic Pottery's Exhibition program brings the best in contemporary ceramic art to the Detroit area each year. This is a series of exhibitions which examine the achievements and ideas of professional ceramic artists.

These exhibitions are free to the public and offer area residents and students the opportunity to see a national perspective on ceramics, an ancient and continually evolving art form.

These exhibitions also provide service to the professional ceramic artists by offering a public place for their work to be reviewed as well as to cultivate new audiences.

This exchange of ideas between artist and audience is an important part of Pewabic Pottery's mission.

    Exhibition Schedule - 2006
    September 8 - November 3, 2006

Tooth and Claw: An Ark of Animals Re-Imagined
Looks at approaches to depicting animals in clay sculpture, ranging from the relatively naturalistic to the surreal and symbolic. We hope to include the works of artists such as Joe Bova, whose animal-headed rhytons recall the animal-headed cups of many of the ancient Mediterranean cultures; Keofar Kesornsook whose meticulous examination of insects on a gigantic scale bring us close to their jewel-like yet monstrous intricacy; Bernadette Curran, who sculpts animals as part of domestic ware, extending, in her way, the ancient European tradition. In total we hope to exhibit the work of nearly 20 artists in this fall 2006 exhibition.
