The Party – Pewabic board members are hosting a Raku Party at Pewabic Pottery at 10125 e. Jefferson Ave. in Detroit on Saturday, October 14. A pot thrown by one of your hosts or other accomplished potters will be waiting for you to glaze and fire with our help in one of our Pewabic kilns. The price is $60 per person for one pot or $90 per person for those who wish to glaze and fire two pots. It is about a two-hour process.
What is Raku? – Raku, from the Chinese word for enjoyment, has many different connotations. It is the name for a ceramic technique, an object, a philosophical state of mind and a religious endeavor. In America, Raku is a firing process.
Also, there will be a Silent Auction of several Raku pots made by well know Raku Ceramic Artists.
