Youth Classes
- Pewabic is your first choice for the best youth ceramic education available! We have classes to fit busy family calendars and most budgets. At Pewabic, children can participate in a variety of educational classes from half-day hand-building workshops to week-long summer camp sessions to semester-long wheel-throwing classes.

2013 Youth Workshops
One Saturday a month, we offer themed Hands-on Workshops for youth. These workshops are designed for youth ages 4-16. We offer two sessions for each workshop: 10am - 12pm and 12pm-2pm. Cost: $30.00 per person or $45.00 for one child and adult making one project.

Youth Classes & Camps
Youth Wheel Throwing (6 Weeks) | Ages 12- 17 | $145.00
Session 1: May 4 – June 8 | Saturday 10:00AM – 12:30PM
Session 2: June 24 – July 29 | Monday 10:00AM – 12:30PM
This class is designed for the beginning preteen and teen to learn the ancient skills of centering, pulling up, shaping, and tooling on the potter’s wheel. Develop the skills of simple clay preparation, and explore the versatility of throwing through individual instruction and hands on attention. Basic glazing techniques will be covered. Open studio included until 4PM on the days classes meet!
Teen Wheel-Throwing Camp | Ages 12 -17 | $115.00 per week
Week 1: August 19th – 23rd, 10:00AM – 1:00PM
Week 2: August 26th – 30th, 10:00AM – 1:00PM
Beginning teens will learn the basics of wheel throwing and glazing techniques. NEW: Included in camp fee, youth over 12 years of age can utilize open studio hours until 4pm during the course of the throwing camp. Clay for open studio is an additional fee. Participants staying past the class times must provide their own lunch.
Passport to Pottery Summer Camp | Ages 6-12 | Weekdays June 24 - August 2nd
PM Session: 1:00PM – 4:00PM | $110.00
AM Session: 9:00AM – 12:00PM | $110.00
Full Day: 9:00AM – 4:00PM | $250.00 (covers lunchtime supervision)
We welcome youth ages 6-12 to join us for annual summer camps. Each week, our camps focus on different countries and provide youth with cultural awareness through fun and rich activities in ceramic arts and more. Private Parties and Field Trips
Want to host a special and unique hands-on workshop experience? We offer private tours and workshops for groups of 10 or more. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or graduation or looking for an excursion for your youth group or school, we can provide you with a truly memorable experience. Cost: Begins at $17 per person (tour fee is included; requires a minimum of 10 people)
Special discounts are offered to Girl and Boy Scout troops who book a private Hands-On-Workshop and/or Tour. Scouts can earn “fun patches” for attending a workshop. Troop leaders please call us at 313.626.2000 to learn how our ceramic workshops can assist you in teaching scouts about science, math, history, and nature.
