Pewabic is your first choice for the best youth ceramic education available! We have classes to fit busy family calendars and most budgets.

At Pewabic, children can participate in a variety of educational classes from half-day hand-building workshops to week-long summer camp sessions to semester-long wheel-throwing classes.  


Educational Opportunities:

  • Passport to Pottery - These summer camps are available June – July.  Youth may choose to register for one week or all 6 weeks.  The choice is yours. At each camp, students ages 6-12 are introduced to a different culture and create objects in clay from that culture.  Each concludes with an art show where participants may share their projects with family and friends.

    We offer an AM session, Monday - Friday, 9am - 12pm and an afternoon session, Monday – Friday, 1pm-4pm.  Youth may not participate in both.   Cost: $95.00 per week.

  • Wheel Throwing Camp - Two summer camps are offered to introduce teens to basic wheel throwing and glazing techniques.  Participants may register for one or both weeks.  Teen Wheel Throwing Camp is offered Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM - 1PM. Cost: $95.00 per week.

  • 2012 Youth Workshops – One Saturday a month, we offer themed Hands-on Workshops for youth.  These workshops are designed for youth ages 4-16. We offer two sessions for each workshop: 10am - 12pm and 12pm-2pm.  Cost: $30.00 per workshop.

  • Private Parties and Field Trips - Want to host a special and unique hands-on workshop experience? We offer private tours and workshops for groups of 10 or more.  Whether you’re celebrating a birthday or graduation or looking for an excursion for your youth group or school, we can provide you with a truly memorable experience.  Take a guided tour then experience the pleasure of getting your hands into clay.     Special discounts are offered to Girl and Boy Scout troops who book a private Hands-On-Workshop and/or Tour. Scouts can earn “fun patches” for attending a workshop. Troop leaders please call us at 313.626.2000 to learn how our ceramic workshops can assist you in teaching scouts about science, math, history, and nature.

All class sizes are limited, so sign up today! You may register online or by phone at (313) 626-2000 or in person at our Museum Store (Mon-Sat 10am-6pm, Sun 12-4pm). We accept Visa, Mastercard, cash or personal check. Please note: There will be no refunds for after the first class. Classes are education based, therefore no commission work is allowed.
