Glaze Technician

FULL TIME: 40 hours/week

REPORTS TO: Fabrication Supervisor

Pewabic seeks a new member of our Fabrication department, to work in close collaboration with the Glaze and Kiln team members to efficiently move Pewabic’s products through the final stages of the production process, while meeting our aesthetic and quality standards. Must work to maintain a workflow and environment that is clean, healthy, safe, friendly and professional. 

Qualifications

  • Ceramics degree or equivalent work experience
  • Pottery/ceramics production experience preferred
  • Glaze mixing and application experience also helpful
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated individual with a focus on producing quality work
  • Use of diplomacy and tact when interacting with Pottery staff and public
  • Must respond positively to constructive criticism and take direction well
  • Ability to multitask and balance the various demands of the production process
  • Stay on task in a fast-paced production environment and demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt as priorities change
  • Must be able to regularly lift 50 lbs., and cope with the stresses of physical labor

Responsibilities
  • Mix glaze batches as needed and test for consistency
  • Execute the glazing and processing of all Pewabic retail and custom architectural products
  • Gain proficiency in multiple glazing methods, including spraying, dip/pour and hand-painting
  • Monitor and refill stock of all necessary materials. Assist in unloading of material deliveries, and follow all material handling and safety guidelines
  • Learn to effectively operate and maintain all necessary equipment and tools
  • Balance efficiency and accuracy in all work
  • Follow all Pewabic’s safety and security guidelines, including proper usage of all PPE
  • Assist in other areas of the fabrication process as needed
  • Occasionally assist with special events and take part in pottery-wide activities.
  • Maintain a clean, healthy, friendly and professional work environment
  • Demonstrate and discuss techniques used throughout the Pottery to visitors
