In the early days of Pewabic, founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton sketched shapes for her vessel thrower, Joseph Heerich, to throw on the wheel. Perry Stratton would then add decorative elements to the surface before firing it. Though a contemporary piece, our Classic Vase is created through a similar process of applying a design – in this case using slip – to a leather-hard wheel-thrown piece, before bisque firing it.
Frost, Pewabic's newest glaze, was born out of a misfire of our seasonal Winterberry glaze. That small batch of pale transparent blue-green mugs and vases drew quick attention, so we decided to recreate their beauty in a new glaze. Frost's cool, dreamlike color pools against the toasty reduction clay body. Its glossy surface adds the perfect finishing touch, announcing to catch it while you can.
