Friday PM Intro to Slip Casting 

Fridays from 6 pm-9 pm 

Instructor: Josh Kochis

Session 2: June 30-August 18 (8-Week course) 

In this class taught by Pewabic Slip Casting Specialist/Tile Pressing Technician, Josh Kochis, students will use the basic principles of mold making for tile as a starting point for working with liquid clay. Multiple applications of the casting process will be covered, including the production of simple vessels, handles, and ornamentation. Each student will receive the practical experience necessary to conceptualize ideas, create models, fabricate working molds, and to produce multiples of their designs. 

Who should take this class?:  This class is best suited for adult students (18+) who have a base knowledge of ceramics/one part mold making and would like to learn the more advanced technique of slip casting.

What’s included?: 

  • 3 hours of weekly instruction (during scheduled class time) 
  • Glazes, slips, underglazes, and firings 
  • A small studio shelf
  • Open studio opportunity
  • The first gallon of slip/mold clay

Open Studio Hours Session 2 through sign up system only: 

Mondays-Tuesday 2 -5 pm

Thursdays 10 am-1 pm and 6-9 pm

Fridays 10 am-1 pm and 2-5 pm 

Saturdays 2-5 pm

Please note: No cash refunds will be issued during the first week of classes. Pewabic Education Studio is under no obligation to reschedule classes that are canceled upon the closure of the facility due to inclement weather, power outages, misunderstanding of schedule, covid shut down, and or personal schedule. There is no guarantee that a make-up class will be offered. Classes will not be prorated to accommodate a missed class, nor will refunds be issued.
