Thursday AM Centering Sessions | Summer 22 - Session 2

Thursdays from 10 am - 1 pm

Instructor: Kathryn Whitlock

Session 2: June 30-August 18 - "Mind, Body, Earth"

Incorporating elements of Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy, Eco-Art Therapy, traditional and contemporary approaches to clay, participants of this 8-week course will receive instruction in different methods of hand building and finishing techniques alongside Mindfulness skills training and group-based Art Therapy. The driving force within this class is to foster a deeper connection to the natural world, to draw attention to the connection between clay work and the environment, and to facilitate emotional healing through the development of Mindfulness skills that can be used both in and out of the studio. Classes include 3 hours of instruction during scheduled times, firings, glazes, a studio shelf, open studio opportunities, and the first 25 pounds of clay.

Kathryn is a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor, Provisionally Licensed Art Therapist, and Certified Trauma Professional. She holds a BA in Ceramics with a Minor in Psychology and an MA in Counseling with a Specialization in Art Therapy from Wayne State University. She utilizes a combined approach of Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy, Existentialism, and Person-Centered approaches inflected with Transactional Analysis and Object Relations perspectives to facilitate Art Therapy courses that support participant growth and encourage introspection and greater emotional regulation. She has been a practicing clay artist for more than 15 years and has been working with Pewabic since 2015.
