What you’ll see at Pewabic is a fusion of past and present: Original hand-operated machinery and digital kilns; Mary Chase Perry Stratton originals and works by contemporary artists; and historic glaze techniques and experimental treatments. You’ll understand how we reinvent our heritage with every innovation.
Self-Guided and Private Docent Tours
Pewabic’s campus is free and open to the public, seven days a week. We offer self-guided tours free of charge as well as docent-guided group tours and hands-on workshops for a fee. You’ll have the opportunity to watch our artisans create Pewabic wares from start to finish—from mixing clay to pressing tiles, applying glazes, and firing kilns.
Self-guided tours are available without registration Monday-Friday, 10am–4pm.
Schedule a GUIDED GROUP TOUR led by a Pewabic docent. And make your experience complete by registering your group for a HANDS-ON WORKSHOP. Guided tours and Hands-on workshops are intended for groups of 10 or more.
In our Stratton Gallery you’ll find Journey of a Pioneering Spirit: the Life of Mary Chase Perry Stratton, a permanent exhibit that celebrates Pewabic’s innovative founder. As you view Stratton’s original ceramic works, notice the exceptional glazes – the result of her tireless experimentation – and you will get a sense of the progressive spirit that drove Pewabic from the beginning.
The museum’s displays are a glimpse into our storied past with an introduction to Arts and Crafts era ceramics and the trailblazing spirit of Mary Stratton.
If you are curious about ceramics or need studio space for your artistic practice, we encourage you to visit our studio during class times or open studio while students work.
