Pewabic is excited to announce a new initiative, the Pewabic Neighborhood Studio. This community ceramics space will expand opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and accessibility on Detroit’s east side.
The walk for the historic studio building and the new Pewabic Neighborhood Studio is just 5 minutes.
Located at the Cadillac Arts Centre in the Little Village cultural corridor (just a 5 minute walk from Pewabic's historic campus), the Pewabic Neighborhood Studio will serve as a hub for community-based arts programming, anchored by a partnership with the Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC) and designed to foster new collaborations with organizations, artists, and neighbors. Once construction on the new studio is complete, this fully accessible space will create new opportunities to welcome participants of all abilities while supporting a broader range of community-centered programs and partnerships.

"The Pewabic Neighborhood Studio gives us the opportunity to think even more expansively about access, creativity, and how we serve our community,” said Pewabic Executive Director Jim Leija. “This new fully accessible studio creates more opportunities for people of all abilities to experience ceramics, while giving us room to grow new programs and new ways of engaging with our neighbors. We’re especially excited to do that alongside PASC and as part of the remarkable energy taking shape within the Little Village cultural corridor.”

The Pewabic Neighborhood Studio complements Pewabic’s historic campus by expanding access and strengthening connections within the community. Pewabic's historic education studio is not moving and will continue to operate as it does today, while the Pewabic Neighborhood Studio provides additional space to grow partnerships, increase accessibility, and further Pewabic’s educational mission.
