Dala Horse Tile
$44.00
Traditionally carved from wood scraps during long Swedish winters, the colorfully painted Dala Horse became recognized worldwide after its feature at the World’s Fair in 1939, where it was showcased alongside ceramics crafted at Pewabic.
This Dala Horse Tile, created by Pewabic Marketing Manager Frances Ma, was designed in the historic line-drawn style of Pewabic’s Co-Founder Mary Chase Perry Stratton. Ma took inspiration from the small horse sculptures created by early staff artist Primo Valoni, giving this tile the eyes, nostrils, and tail of his cherished Valoni Ponies.
