address frame installation

Pewabic x mutual adoration

Our handcrafted address tiles fit perfectly in these custom reclaimed wood frames made by Mutual Adoration in their Detroit studio. Follow the directions below to install these Arts and Crafts tiles to your home.

Materials + Tools Needed

  • Drill
  • Level
  • Woodscrews or Anchors appropriate for your wall material
  • E6000 or other construction adhesive (found at any hardware or craft store)
  • Masking Tape
  • Silicon Copper Screws (included, marine grade to prevent weathering)

NOTE: We recommend mounting the frame to the outside of your home before installing the tiles.

Step 1: Determine where your address will be mounted to your home.

Step 2: Hold the frame against the wall, and make sure it is level.

Step 3: Using the pre-drilled holes as your guide, mark the spots on your home where your holes will be drilled.

Step 4a: For wood or vinyl siding, drill small pilot holes on the marks you made in step 3. If you are mounting to brick, stone, or stucco, skip to step 4b.

Step 4b: Using the appropriate size masonry drill bit (often included with anchors), drill holes on the marks you made in step 3. Insert anchors into the holes, and pound flush with the wall.

Step 5: Insert mounting screws through the pre-drilled holes on the frame, and screw into the pilot holes or anchors. You have finished mounting your frame!

Step 6: Starting with the first number, apply a generous amount of adhesive to the mounting area of the frame, and insert the tile into the frame. Use masking tape to hold the tile in place until the adhesive is dry (24 hours). Repeat for each tile until all are inserted.

Step 7: Insert the included silicone copper screws through the holes in each tile BY HAND, until the screw head just touches the tile. DO NOT USE AN ELECTRIC SCREWDRIVER OR DRILL. Over-tightening of the screws at this step risks cracking the tile. The adhesive will securely hold the tiles to the frame, the screws provide and additional level of security but are mostly decorative.

Step 8: After the adhesive has thoroughly dried, remove the masking tape and call your friends over to admire your gorgeous new address!
