On the Rocks: An Exhibition of Vessels for & Related to Drinking opens at Pewabic with a reception 7-9 PM, Friday, January 19th, following juror Pete Pinnell’s lecture at CCS.
Pinnell selected more than 200 pieces from nearly 500 entries to be included in the exhibition celebrating drinking vessels.
A professor of art at University of Nebraska–Lincoln, Pinnell is a prolific maker himself, with his own pottery appearing in more than 120 exhibitions since 1995 in the United States, the Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, China, New Zealand and Australia. His pieces have appeared in books about ceramics, as well as in Clay Times magazine, Ceramics Monthly, Studio Potter, and Purple Sand, a Taiwanese ceramics journal. He also writes about ceramic art, including a regular column in Clay Times.
The exhibition also includes Coffee & Cocoa with Honcho and Pete, featuring a Pewabic blend coffee by metro-Detroit roaster Honcho and hot chocolate by Detroit-based Pete’s Chocolate Co., on Jan. 28 and Choose Your Valentine, with samplings of cocktails created by Valentine Distilling Co., Feb. 8. The exhibition runs through Feb. 25, though Pewabic will be closed in observance of Presidents Day Feb. 19.
