HOURS: Full time

REPORTING TO: Vessel Making Supervisor

Purpose:

As a member of the Fabrication team, assists in the production of Pewabic vessels according to Pewabic’s aesthetic and quality standards. Mix clay and slip, load and unload bisque, maintain stock, track/record items produced and materials used, and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Ceramics degree or equivalent work experience
  • Must be proficient on the pottery wheel and familiar with clay making.
  • Pottery/ceramics production experience preferred.
  • Slip-casting, and kiln experience also helpful.
  • Must be knowledgeable about using and maintaining studio equipment.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated individual with a focus on producing quality work.
  • Use diplomacy and tact when interacting with Pottery staff and public.
  • Must respond positively to constructive criticism and take direction well.
  • Ability to multi-task as well as adjust to changing priorities.
  • Ability to multitask as well as adjust to changing priorities.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Responsibilities:

  • Complete wheel thrown vessel orders.
  • Track and record items produced.
  • Maintain the high quality standards of Pewabic in vessels produced.
  • Mix clay and slip and needed.
  • Understand drying and timing while completing pieces.
  • Load and unload bisque.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Assist in unloading material deliveries.
  • Demonstrate and discuss techniques used throughout the Pottery to visitors.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Communicate the needs of the department with your supervisor.
  • Follow Pewabic policies, security and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stay on task.
  • Work efficiently with cost effectiveness in mind.
  • Assist in other areas of fabrication as needed.
