Pewabic Pottery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the human spirit through clay.
Pewabic is a National Historic Landmark pottery founded in Detroit in 1903. Today it continues to be an active working pottery, architectural tile studio, ceramic arts education center and vibrant cultural destination that attracts visitors from around the world.
Since 1903 ceramic artists have handcrafted ceramic tiles and pottery in Detroit.
Neighbors Mary Chase Perry, a successful china painter, and Horace Caulkins, a dental equipment supplier and kiln manufacturer, came together to build a pottery in turn-of-the-century Detroit. Ultimately, it would outlast all the other tile and pottery producers of their time.
Pewabic has more than 60 employees working to enrich the human spirit through our handcrafted ceramic objects, architectural tile and educational programs, and by sharing our 116-year legacy with students, customers and the community.
