Andy Boswell, the artist behind Boswell Studios, learned how to work with clay from his father, Ray, who taught him the fundamentals in the American folk art tradition which emphasizes personal skill, efficiency, consistency and subtle details that help make pottery more ergonomic and durable. After years of learning the craft, Andy began the process of creating a stable and food-safe crystalline glaze. Zinc silicate crystals form during the firing process creating explosions of color across the smooth glaze surface. After three years of tinkering, Andy succeeded in his goal and now he shares his pieces - and knowledge - with anyone interested in this dynamic process.
