Mezza Vase | Persimmon
Mezza Vases are purposefully handcrafted with the goal of creating totally unique, one of a kind pieces. Our vessel throwers have such a great time making these gems because they get to instill an extra dose of individuality into each one. This approach gives each vase its own personality and a completely unique look.
Persimmon Glaze
This bright orange Persimmon glaze is an ode to Pewabic’s historic uranium glazes. Ceramic glazes are made by combining glass formers, fluxes, and refractories with metal oxides added to modify color and texture. Pre-1940s, before much was known about the dangers of certain materials, now-banned ingredients like lead and uranium were regularly used to achieve specific results. We no longer use these toxic components, but the process is still the same. Pewabic’s Ceramic Materials Engineer Alex Thullen works with safer materials to create the perfect color and texture on our vases. Thullen has created this satin finished orange Persimmon Glaze to celebrate our history and bring this fantastic color into the 21st century.
